By Sarah S-- LJG Brabant – Tilburg Synagogue recently held its annual shul outing, this time to the beautiful city of Maastricht. Rabbi Brian, Peter DB, Golan and I were warmly welcomed at the Maastricht Synagogue for an engaging tour.
Dating back to 1840, the synagogue is slightly older than Tilburg’s and was built on the grounds of a former monastery.
Afterwards, we walked through the historic Jewish quarter in the city center, where we came across traces of Jewish life and several Stolpersteine. Lunch was enjoyed at Levantini, a Mediterranean restaurant that treated us to a generous and delicious mezze meal. Some of the “usual suspects” then crossed the street to Piece of Cake for coffee and a sweet treat.

In the afternoon, we boarded the “sun train,” which took us past some of Maastricht’s highlights, followed by a relaxing boat trip on the Meuse to admire the city from the water - and, of course, to schmooze a little more.
It was a wonderful day filled with history, good food, and warm company shared with our friends from Tilburg Synagogue.
