Living Judaism Classes Launch in January

IJC will launch a new two-year introductory course called Living Judaism - on January 12, 2025.  It is based on IJC’s successful giur/conversion program, which after several successful years is now ready for a broader public.  Says Rabbi Brian: ‘In response to several requests, we have decided to open that program up to the entire IJC community.  In a new and modular format, participants will be able to register for specific topics of interest or for the entire course.’

A Modular Approach

Made up of 20 modules called Living Judaism, it is open to IJC members who wish to refresh their knowledge of Judaism’s richness, together with those who are preparing for conversion and are part of the IJC giur program. The course will be taught by Rabbi Brian and Nada Joppe with occasional guest presenters. We will meet once a month on Sunday afternoons at the synagogue from 2pm to 6pm (with the necessary breaks), and once a month online on Wednesday evenings from 7pm to 9pm. No previous knowledge is required.

Topics will include..

Sundays afternoons will cover themes such as ‘Jewish Movements & Denominations’, ‘Jewish Festivals’, ‘Shabbat’, ‘Jewish Ethics and Progressive Halakhah’, and ‘Jewish Lifecycle Events’, while the Wednesday evening series will offer a comprehensive survey of Jewish history.  The dates and times are already in our What’s On calendar; the specification of topics will be added before the end of December.

Cost

For those in the giur program, these classes are included in their regular tuition fee. For IJC members, we ask a donation of 25€ for the Sunday sessions (non-members 35€) and for the Wednesday sessions 15€ (non-members 20€). Registration will be required, and non-members will undergo the statutory security screening.

The IJC looks forward to your participation!
