By Klio G -- On Sunday 27th April, the evening of Rosh Chodesh in the new month of Iyar, I invited five women from our IJC community into my home in Antwerp for a Rosh Chodesh evening and dinner.
At 7pm, Effie Meletiou and I hosted an online Zoom meet up. I was rigged up on my laptop in my office and Effie sat with her laptop in my living room so the ladies could tune in and watch.
I read the weekly Parashat summary of Shemini and then shared a humoristic YouTube video explaining the Parashat in a nutshell. Then I concluded the meeting by playing another YouTube of Psalm 104 sung in Hebrew, Yemenite style. We experienced a few technical glitches a long the way but that didn't dampen our spirit!
We then sat down to a homemade meal which I had made. During the evening we shared personal stories and learned indeed that we were all strong and unique Jewish women who each had an interesting story to tell.
Bellies were full and we all laughed a lot which was much needed in the recent troubled times. I think we all left the evening on a high with smiles on our faces and more optimism for the week ahead.
Here's hoping to more future gatherings.
