The IJC is often referred to as a “home away from home” for its members, and part of its role as an expat community is to provide any Jewish family in Belgium with what they may be missing.
Every new birth is celebrated by a “baby blessing” in our synagogue. We also recommend local mohalim who can perform circumcision.
Our Bar/Bat Mitzvah experience is the flagship programme of our Sunday School, popular amongst its participants, offering each child their special day to become an adult. Adults are welcome to join the programme and celebrate their own Bar and Bat Mitzvahs.
Our rabbi is available to perform weddings for Jewish couples under the chuppah— both same-gender and different-gender. For mixed-faith couples he is happy to lead special marriage blessing ceremonies.
The IJC is also there for the sadder moments of life. The community gathers for memorial services and shiva prayers, to support families in Belgium who have lost loved ones here or elsewhere.
